Dealing with anxiety

According to the dictionary, “anxiety” is a state of being troubled and uneasy. According to the Bible anxiety is a Choke.

When we feel anxious, we choose to be anxious is unhealthy. In other words, it is we who make a choice to be anxious when we come across situations or any event that disturbs our mind.

Philippians chap. 4 verse 6:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God”

God tells us not to be worried about ……, but just surrender it to God. In other words, God tells us “do not be worried about anything. I know how to take care of it and I know how to remove your out of it. Just surrender your worries, situation, or problems completely to me and have faith in me.”

Imagine a television technician comes to your house in order to repair the television. After every five minutes you tell the television technician, “Please give back my television, I want to see, what you have done so far.” Now, in such a situation can you expect your television to get repaired? The answer is obviously a big no.

If you want to board an auto rickshaw, will you then first catch hold of the driver and ask him his driving experience certificate? If you can assume a rickshaw driver, who is a human being to take you safely to your destination then why can’t you trust Jesus for your problems and difficulties that you face in your day life style?

We must know that the devil choke’s us, when he succeeds in making us anxious about things in life. To justify this above statement, here comes another example as below:

Victor meets a lady who his neighbor. He tells her, “aunty, why are you looking so worried?” She answered saying “I am worried about my daughter, I want her to successfully pass her final year of college and that she may get a good job”.

After few months, Victor meets her again and he tells her” Aunty, your daughter has passed out her college and also has got a good job, yet why are you looking worried?. The aunty replies, “I want my daughter to get settle in marriage with a good boy”. In the next meeting, Victor meets the aunty again and he had to ask her the very same question,
‘aunty, why are you looking worried?, now your daughter is married and she has settled with a good husband”. She answered saying, “I am worried that my daughter should get a child”. After one year hence, when Victor visits the aunty again, he asked her the same question, “aunty, why are you looking worried now? Your daughter got settled in marriage and she also got a child. This time the aunty replied saying, “I am worried for my grand daughter’s son, I wonder what’s his future when he grows up. In this way, the aunt’s anxiety goes on and on. By getting worried about our situations in life, we are sending out signals by saying “I am not going to trust God but I am going to be tensed”

Also, anxiety is like a thorn. It puncture’s our life. We are so called, “filled with the Holy Spirit” when we attend a prayer meeting services etc. We are joyful and happy during those times. We are at peace. Now, the moment we reach home or the moment we are back those times. We are at peace. Now, the moment we reach home or the moment we are back in to the worldly life style, we may suddenly face a situation which puts us off. We may loose our temper and so we are empty again. We are punctured successfully by the devil and we become like a flat tire.

We should be so strong that when the devil hits us with the thorn to purchase our tire, the thorn should break but our tire should be as it is. To make this happen, we should follow certain strategies which are as follows:
