Teachable Moments With Your Child
A parent’s life is often times equal measures of pleasure and difficulty and one is more often than not bound to come quickly upon the heels of the other in blinding succession. There really is no separating the two and frankly speaking you would not really want to, would you? For both challenges and rewards are just two of the things that make this lifelong endeavor—parenting—the rewarding, self affirming and life changing event that it is.
You really would not want to have it any other way and one of the important—and potentially productive--things to realize is that in all of these instances lies the opportunity for you to teach your children some life lessons that they may carry with them for the rest of their lives.
You can for example relate some of the teachings in the Bible with everyday things that you normally encounter with your children. Not many people realize the effectiveness of this sort of informal “off the cuff” teaching method. This an important consideration all the more if you frequently find—like many of us--that there are not enough hours in the day for you to devote some sit down time to teach your children the finer points of our faith.
With all the pressures of work and school and many other tasks clamoring for our attention, it is challenging enough that we have all those things to deal with on a daily basis even without taking into consideration our spiritual obligations to our children. This is a very important aspect of our role as parents however and it would be amiss of us to lapse in this area. By incorporating Bible teachings in our everyday conversations, we can be sure that we continue to nourish our children’s growing faith even during the course of the most frenetic of days.
